Our Mission
At Roots and Grounds Coffee, we are dedicated to sourcing the finest wholesale coffee products from sustainable farms in Kenya, East Africa. We personally visit every farm and meet every owner we buy from. We are committed to supporting our Kenyan suppliers and the Kenyan economy. Additionally, our mission is to provide roasters with the highest-quality coffees that meets their needs while promoting ethical practices.
About the Founders
Roots and Grounds is a new company, formed in 2025, but we are not new to the coffee business or to Kenya. The three co-founders, Dr. Fred McKinney, Donald Keene, Esq., and David E. White, Jr. Esq. have decades of coffee and international trade experience. Dr. McKinney was a co-founder of Jamaica Gourmet Coffee, the oldest black owned continuously operating coffee roaster wholesaler in the United States. Mr. Keene has spent 40 years in Africa serving as a Development Leader and trade and investment specialist with USAID. Mr. Keene lives in Nairobi, Kenya. Mr. White, Jr. was the Deputy Director of the United States Peace Corp under President Joseph R. Biden. Mr. White is a military veteran, attorney, and entrepreneur. Together, our team is committed to excellence and fair trade.
